Difficult to focus in Pudu Street

Under the Umbrella ella ella

Had a chance to have a session of street photography in Pudu with my buddies, as usual we took a train to the destination, reached the destination, had our gun prepared, and started the wonderful journey. In this post, most of the picture are captured using the CCTV 35mm lens, candid shot for this little manual lens is a No-no, by the time you get the right focus, you will lost the right moment. But still, I enjoyed the photowalk, especially I get to play with a monstrous mean machine. Do check out the review of this MMM from my celebrity friend.

I'm a cheapskate..

I'm a cheapskate, I bought myself a 35mm F1.7 CCTV lens from Clubsnap at around RM200. Well, you dun get Auto Focus in this lens, no auto aperture control in this lens as well, so basically you have to look at the camera screen and turn the focus ring and aperture ring to make your photo sharp and in correct exposure.

When I first got a hold of this lens, though this lens is small but it is heavy, I think due to its glass lens instead of plastic lens and the full metal lens body. The focus ring and aperture ring is smooth, I have no complains on it. I have to confess that I never been using manual focus lens before, I had some problem when I first started using this lens, it takes me about a minute to get my exposure and my focus sharp in order to snap one picture, but I know practice makes perfect, and now I've get used to the lens, I do not take such long time to capture a picture. teehee. Alright, below are the test out pictures of the lens. I'm still lazy to edit picture :P.

You can find vignetting at wide open but just stop down the aperture a lil then it would not be too obvious. This lens was made for a smaller sensor it only sharp in the center when the aperture is wide open but I have no problem with that and it actually gives miniaturize effect which I like. Ever since I acquire this lens, it is always mount on my NEX, I've neglected my 16mm, poor 16mm. :D

I had a chance to stay in this luxury resort a week after my Singapore trip, the resort is new with brilliant architecture, filled with staffs more than tourist that always wear a smile on their face, very comfortable room but the bed was to soft for my liking. A few things I wanna complain would be the weather, too cloudy, and the water level, it was low tide and it is dirty, imagine the resort is in surrounded with white beaches and crystal clear sea water, it would be perfect! Please bear with my laziness, I've only edited a few pictures in this post the rests are all straight out from camera. Enjoy.

I was at Singapore two weeks ago to attend my Sis's convocation, time flies, geee, and now she's whining about her working life like me now. Singapore weather is plain predictable, one rainy day and the next day will be cloudless sunny day, my sis was damn lucky to have her convo on a bright sunny day. Anyway, I wasn't hired to be her photographer, with the tools I have, I won't be able to get close enough to shoot, so I set my own mission, to test my NEX's JPEG Straight out. The pictures you're seeing now are all without post processing. Enjoy.

Press the button and wait for the green lights. I'm moving on with my NEX.

It's been awhile, it's been nearly half a year that I've posted any pictures. I've sold my whole Olympus gear and jumped to a smaller ship. In this post, all the pictures are taken by the NEXt generation interchangeable lens camera, they called it the mirrorless camera system. Proudly announce, I'm using Sony Alpha NEX -3 camera with only a 16mm Lens F2.8 - 24mm FOV. It was a quite a challenging experience using a very wide single focal lens through out the whole photowalk and hard to get used to the wide angle lens with no zooms, the only way to reach the object is to move closer, but it was good to learn the technique of using the lens. Let's cut the crap.. enjoy the photos...

That's all for the post. It's time for me conclude my thoughts on this NEX3 with 16mm lens: First of all, I didn't actually expect much with the image quality, but it actually turns out more than I'd expected. The colors are vibrant enough to my liking though the lens is not as sharp like Zuiko lens but this can be easily sharpen in Photoshop. Some NEX users are complaining about the menu system, there's no shortcuts for setting for instance the ISO and the white balance, you have to get into the menu system to find those setting. But to me, you just need some time to practice and get into the menu system quickly. The AF is fast enough and the mechanism in the lens is very quiet, you can't hear the AF motor working at all, but what bothers me most is the Shutter sound, it's way to loud!!! Overall I give NEX3 a 6/10, cheerios to the portability and the IQ.

I was in Miri last week for business trip, I manage to capture a few photos during one of the evening when my friendly customer gave up bugging me for happy hour. :P

All shots taken from a sea side in the evening, there was with few boats parking near the seashore; I didn't manage to catch sunset as the beach is facing to the north east, I guess the best area to catch sunset is along west coast peninsular Malaysia, for example Batu Pahat, my hometown's beach. Anyway, enjoy..

I don't know why almost every photoblog that I follow has a thing with PUSSY cat, so this is my virgin cat shot.

Was in Pavilion last Saturday with my dearly to shoot some Christmas Deco in the mall. I was told that Pavilion actually invested A Million Dollar for the festive season and EON Bank has sponsored 10k for the main entrance deco, pffft.

We reached there around 5pm, and it was filled with swam of ~~moutain tortoise~~ homo sapiens. Tsk tsk, it was so damn hard to capture a good compo.

After a few shot I was sick of the crowd and hunt for CHICKENs.

Bangkok Getaway Nov 2009

Shopping spree & delicious food... here I come.. Bangkok

I've lost count how many times I've landed my ass in Bangkok, this is probably my 7th or 8th times. The main purpose to visit Bangkok is to have a getaway from work, accompany my chic to have her shopping spree and most important to have my shutter therapy (~~which it didn't turn out good. Sigh!~~). Enjoy my ~~lousy~~ captures.

Our first stop, SIAM SQUARE, I didn't get to shoot anything, well, probably there's not much of interesting scene/object to capture, ~~except for those chun chicks hanging around there.~~ After shopping around there, we headed to massage center for a relaxing foot massage. We've cured our foot and it was time to cure our stomach, we headed to the famous Thai restaurant, Ban Khun Mae.

Was back to my hometown Batu Pahat to attend my cousin, Michelle's Wedding dinner. I was appointed as a photographer of the day, as a amateur photographer with less equipment, with only 14-42 kit lens and a battery grip with me (no flash gun), I did face lotza difficulties shooting around especially in low-lights. But overall I'm happy with the results. Enjoy.
